Biographies

Short and long

Short

The Good Behaviours are an award-winning chamber-folk ensemble wrapped in old-time banjo: five of Australia's most virtuosic folk and jazz players, led by composer Nick Henderson. Their debut album Home won Best Debut Album at the 2024 Australian Folk Music Awards.

Long

An award-winning, exquisite chamber-folk ensemble wrapped in old-time banjo.

Nick Henderson (banjo) composes music of cinematic beauty inspired by the mighty Dyarubbin, a border-collie called Miles, the sweeping beauty of Dharawal country and a deep well of musical inspiration spanning New-Grass, Scandinavian Fiddle Music and Post-Rock.

Joined by some of Australia's most virtuosic improvisers Chris Stone (fiddle) and Holly Downes (double bass), Emily-Rose Šárkova (accordion) and Felix Lalanne (guitar), they make a veritable supergroup spanning the Australian Folk and Jazz scenes. The band play music from the heart, they uplift and excite with dynamic and cathartic journeys through music.

Recent highlights include winning Best Debut Album for 'Home' at The Australian Folk Music Awards 2024, playing at Woodford, The National and Cobargo Folk Festivals, releasing their second album 'It'll Be Alright' and being chosen to showcase at Your Roots Are Showing Conference in Ireland.

What people say

Quotes

The passages of ethereal phrases and sweeping melodic crescendos were most beautifully captured in Britt's House as well as the premiere performance of the powerful Push.

Alex Morris, Newcastle Herald

I think instrumental music can sometimes go direct to the heart, more than music with lyrics.
